Manuscript of Božena Němcová's Notes from Hungarian Travels

At the end of August 1855 Němcová set off on her fourth and last trip to Slovakia. After a short stay in the spa town of Sliač, she continued through central Slovakia, where she wanted to continue her study of Slovak customs and folklore from the previous years. The stay was originally planned for three months. However, it ended abruptly after two due to the intervention of the Austrian authorities, who suspected Němcová of political and Pan-Slavist agitation in Upper Hungary and therefore forced her to return early.
