Letter to Václav Černý (1939)
Dear Dr. Černý,
Please do not hold it against me for not responding. I live (as we all probably do) under the cauldron of these momentous times as if in a stone dungeon. It is a wonder that my head doesn’t burst from the insane vortex that quite imperviously fills my deep solitude. One is practically paralyzed by it.
But I will send you the review on Pilař and Hlávka by the deadline. I have both books here. As soon as this devastating excitement, this ceaseless agonizing impatience somewhat subsides in me, I will prepare to submit to you a real piece of work for Kritický měsíčnik.
Cordially yours,
B. Polan
