Dear Ivan, I have some very sad news. Yesterday, at 5 in the morning, our friend Jirka died following a car accident. He lay unconscious for two days and never regained consciousness. The accident happened at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

I’ll send you details of the funeral as soon as I know the day. We have had the death mask taken. Please say if you would like it, and also whether you will attend. It’s all too much to take in!
