Just like the main character of Sun Wu-kchung, the monkey king, this is a lively and playful book. There is always something going on – coloured and black and white illustrations alternate, as do capital and small letters, white and multi-coloured pages, etc. The playfulness and rhythm is also underlined by the original narrative verse of a mythical tale. There is a short list of prominent characters and phenomena that form the myth. This approach reminds me of a computer game in which we use an avatar to help overcome and acquire super powers and new skills.
