The fates of the paratroopers dropped
Following the unsuccessful mission of paratroopers BENJAMIN and PERCENTAGE, another drop into the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia took place in late December 1941, when the groups ANTHROPOID, SILVER A, and SILVER B were deployed. SILVER A successfully reestablished a critical radio link with London, and ANTHROPOID went on to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich in May 1942. In March 1942, the OUT DISTANCE and ZINC parachute groups followed, tasked with intelligence gathering and sabotage operations.
At the end of April 1942, three more groups—STEEL, BIVOUAC, and BIOSCOP—were dropped into the Křivoklát region. Arnošt Mikš died in a shootout while attempting to retrieve operational equipment. Bohuslav Kouba committed suicide under desperate circumstances in early May. Oldřich Dvořák was shot, and Libor Zapletal, Jindřich Čoupek, and Bohuslav Grabovský were arrested by the Gestapo and later executed. Karel Svoboda and František Trpík remained in hiding and waited until 1944 to carry out their operations.
