Postcard to Jan Kopecký (1942)

Náchod, 17 Aug. 1942
Dear Mr. Kopecký,
Thank you very much for your kind letter. I’m bothering you once again today: am sending two books that Bohumil Novák borrowed for me from the Prague Municipal Library; be so kind as to place them on his desk or in his drawer so that he finds them when he returns from holiday. I just received a letter from him in Kunštát. I still have your copy of the Oldest Czech Games. I apologize for not returning it along with these – it’s not lost. I will give it to you when I return to Prague – alas, it won’t be long now. I have found among some old French fabliaux something like Mastičkář (The Ointment Seller) and want to compare them as soon as possible.
I’m pleased that you are looking forward to working with me. I too enjoy thinking back on our past (very successful) cooperation and hope that our most successful work lay before us. Today I’m quite content to admit to you in Camera caritatis that the KM
matter turned out the way it turned out. When fighting is practically impossible, it is good to rest and gather strength. And then we break it all down and rebuild it our way!
Wishing you all the best and looking forward to seeing you!
