Lomikel, the Sewer God

Lomikel, the sewer god—a central figure in Field’s work—is the protagonist of the probably lost or perhaps never-written written text Prakršno, of which only fragments survive today, most notably a glossary that sheds light on the author’s otherwise incomprehensible mythical world of the Krhuts. T. R. Field incorporated Lomikel into numerous poems and illustrations, including a set of original fortune-telling cards. Lomikel’s red figure also appears on the cover of Field’s third poetry collection from 1937. The faded remnants of paint on a wooden statuette suggest the intensive use of this cult object. Could this or a similar depiction of the god of sewers have been part of rituals at Lomikel’s supposed sanctuary in Prague’s Žitná Street?
